what is an ideal voltage source?

what is an ideal voltage source? In ideal voltage source the terminal voltages are completely independent of the current through it. Practically it is not possible to have an ideal voltage source since it requires infinite amount of energy that can be drawn through it. An automobile storage battery has terminal voltages say of 12V that remain constant as long as the current does not exceed few amperes.
